PROGRAMMES OFFERED WITH ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- ONE YEAR CERTIFICATE IN MUSIC (PART TIME)
REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
The general admission requirements which shall apply for both Full-Time and Part-Time Programme are as follows:
- Candidates wishing to enrol in the One-Year Certificate Programme of the Department of Music must possess Credit Passes in a minimum of 4 Subjects at not more than two sittings in SSCE/GCE Ordinary Level/NECO Examinations.
- Other candidates wishing to enrol in the Certificate Programme out of interest or for the development of their musical talents shall be admitted based on evidence of having passed through some certificated formal education: JSC, SSCE, Universities and Polytechnic Diplomas and Certificates etc.
SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
Candidates shall be selected for the programme through an Audition Test administered by the School of Continuing Education in partnership with the Department of Music, University of Uyo.
- TWO-YEAR DIPLOMA IN MUSIC (PART TIME)
REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
Every candidate for the Diploma in Music must possess one of the minimum entry qualifications:
- At least three Credit level passes at the SSCE/GCE ‘0’ Level or equivalent Examinations in Arts or related Social Science subjects.
- The Teachers’ Grade II Certificate (TC II).
- One Year Certificate in Music from the University of Uyo, OAU or any other recognized University with a minimum of Two Credit Level Passes at the SSCE/GCE ‘0’ Level Examinations or its equivalent.
DEPARTMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
A Pass in the Departmental Audition Test is a pre-requisite for all applicants. The contents of the audition shall include written (theoretical), practical (playing of various instruments singing, dancing, etc.), as well as oral examinations.
- BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE IN MUSIC (FULL TIME)
REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
Required University Matriculation Examination Subjects
English Language, Music, plus two subjects from the Arts or related Social Science and science disciplines.
Minimum SSCE or O/L Subject Requirements:
General university requirements:
5 credit passes including English Language in the senior Secondary School Certificate Level or its equivalent. A pass at credit level in Music at the Senior Secondary School level; OR Grade V of the Associated Board of Royal School of Music or other comparable body; or Certificate in Music Studies will be of advantage.
Direct Entry:
Any one of the following:
Diploma certificate in Music OR Diploma in Music Education, OR Nigeria Certificate in Education with music as teaching subject, is acceptable. Those on direct entry are admitted to the 3 year programme of the Faculty of Arts.
