PROPGRAMME OFFERED WITH ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

  1. Bachelor of Forestry (B. For) in Forestry and Wildlife

Admission Requirement

University Matriculation Examination (UME):

Five Credit passes at SSCE/WASC/GCE. O’ Level in English Language, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, Mathematics, and any one of Economics, Geography, Physics. (P7 in English Language is accepted, in addition to 5 other credits in relevant subjects. A credit in either Mathematics or Physics is also accepted.

  1. Remedial Admission:

For JME, the University Matriculation Examinations (UME) and successfully completed one year of remedial studies at the University of Uyo, in addition to having five credits as in (i.) above.

  1. Direct Entry:

Two ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry and one of Zoology/Botany/Agricultural Science/Biology or OND (Upper Merit pass in relevant fields, plus UME requirements.

 

  1. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Forestry and Wildlife Management

Admission Requirements
Notwithstanding the University minimum requirements, the prospective candidate must possess at least a second class (Lower Division) Bachelors’ degree with a CGPA of at least 2.00 in Forestry or Botany, Biology, Agriculture, Biochemistry, Geology and other equivalent fields earned from any recognized University.
Candidates must have full ordinary level certificate with a credit level pass in English Language. However, candidates with third class degree may be admitted, but at the end of the programme they will not be considered for admission to pursue Master’s degree. The Postgraduate Diploma will normally take a minimum of two semesters and a candidate is expected to have successfully completed a minimum of 18 units of prescribed course work per semester. In addition, the candidate must have completed and successfully presented a dissertation of 4 credit hours

 

  1. Master’s Degree M.Sc. Forest and Wildlife Management

The Department offers a Postgraduate Programme leading to the award of Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Forestry and Wildlife in the following areas of specialisation:

  1. Forest Resources Management and Economics
  2. Environmental Forestry
  3. Wood Science
  4. Agroforestry
  5. Wildlife Management

Admission Requirements
Admission into the Master of Science degree Programme is open to graduates of the University of Uyo or any other approved University, who must have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry/Forest Resources Management, Wildlife, Agriculture or Botany/Biological Sciences with a minimum of a Second Class (Lower Division) or its equivalent. Candidates with cumulative CGPA of 2.75 would be given preference.

  1. Doctorate Degree Ph.D in Forest and Wildlife Management

Admission Requirements
A candidate for admission into the Ph.D. programme must have a good Master’s degree in forestry/forest resources management/wood science or wildlife management, with a cumulative score of at least 60% (or a grade of ‘B’) in the M. Sc. course work from the University of Uyo or any other approved University. In exceptional cases, candidates with Master’s degree in environmental or biological science who meet the above stated requirements, but have minimal deficiencies in forestry, may be admitted. Such deficiencies must, however, be remedied during the programme through approved courses recommended by the Department Board of Studies. In addition, a candidate for admission must have obtained a second class lower degree with a CGPA of at least 2.75 (on a 5 point scale) as well as Ordinary Level certificate with a credit level pass in English Language.
