BRIEF INTRODUCTION: The Directorate of Information and Public Relations is a unit in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. The unit came into existence in 1984 as Information and Protocol unit in the office of the Vice-Chancellor in the then University of Cross River State (UNICROSS). It was not until 1998 when administrative directorates where created that the Information and Protocol Unit was upgraded to Directorate of Information and Public Relations while Protocol was made a separate unit in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

FUNCTIONS OF THE DIRECTORATE
(i) Managing/projecting University’s image by giving prompt and accurate information to University’s internal and external publics.
(ii) Promoting and sustaining cordial relationship between the university management, staff, students, host community and the relevant publics.
(iii) Ensuring prompt publication of the University quarterly news bulletin and the circulation of same to the relevant publics.
(iv) Coordinating and giving necessary publicity to University’s events/ceremonies.
(v) Monitoring the print and electronic media for news/information relating to UNIUYO and other tertiary institutions and making same available to management.
(vi) Keeping record of media publications on the university.
(vii) Ensuring audio-visual coverage of university events and producing Albums and VCDs for the media, university management and for the records
(viii) Coordination of University alumni activities.
(ix) Supply, monitoring and upgrading of information for the university web-site.
