BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF THE FACULTY
The Faculty of Education was established in 1983 in the erstwhile University of Cross River State jointly owned by both Cross River State and Akwa Ibom State Governments. University of Cross State inherited the Faculty as a full-fledge College of Education at its inception in 1983. In October 1991 the then Federal Military Government of Nigeria took over the ownership of the institution and the name of the institution was changed from “University of Cross River State” to “University of Uyo, Uyo,”.
Therefore, all the academic programmes of University of Cross River State were inherited by the new university. The Faculty main objective was to develop quality and professional character in students who wish to become competent and creative in teaching. The function of the faculty is to:
- Organize and supervise programmes in Education;
- Provision of resource support to the Ministry of Education in the ministry’s programme in primary and secondary schools as well as teachers’ education.
