THE SCULPTURE GARDEN
The sculpture garden at the University is a major landmark and exhibits the work of students of the Department of Fine and Industrial Arts.

Over the years, products of the department have created a local tradition of metal and fibreglass sculpture and relief wall murals, decorating public and private buildings.

RESEARCH All departments in the University have been group into three research divisions:
- Research Division for the Humanities (RDH) - Faculties of Arts and Education
- Research Division for the Sciences (RDN) - Departments in the faculties of Natural and Applied Sciences, Agriculture, Pharmacy and Engineering.
- Research Division for the Social Sciences (RDS) - Departments in the Faculties of Law, Business Administration, Social Sciences and Environmental Studies.
The University Committee (URC) promotes and co-ordinates research activity within the University and also manages the URC Fund.
The main research centres include:
- Centre for Development Studies: The objective is to harness the resources of the University in the social sciences for development-oriented research, including fundamental in-depth studies of public policy issues related to Third World development in general and the development of Akwa Ibom State in particular.
- Centre for Cultural Studies: It focuses on research, workshops and other programmes to promote the culture of the peoples of the State with a view to enhancing their cultural identity.
- Central Research Laboratory: The laboratory houses major items of research and teaching equipment which meet the need of several departmenrs.
